The Garage Bikes + Brews building lived most of its life as Behrens Motor Supply just over the Cedar Street bridge in River Falls, WI.
In the Fall of 2019, the Johnsons purchased the building, which was in need of some attention and love. The original 1969 roof was still in place and had caused issues inside.
When you visit, look for the original metal roof which was re-purposed inside. Repurposing is a passion of the Johnsons and can be found throughout The Garage!
Our resident mechanic and all around shop guy, Derek lives in River Falls with his wife and two kids. Derek has been obessed with bikes since college days and was happy to find a full time job repairing bikes, talking bikes and serving beer. Before landing his dream job, Derek worked as a registered nurse and has a degree in Kinesology (which makes him an expert bike fitter). When he is not repairing bikes, he enjoys biking and drinking beer and hanging out with family. Recently, he has taken a interest in gravel racing and tries to make everyone join him!
Ellis is a chemist by trade, he gave up his fulltime job and now brews fulltime for The Garage! Ellis lives in River Falls with his wife Rachel, son Miller and Carl the dog. Ellis is passionate about local live music and beer. You can find him and his wife "reasearching" live music for The Garage and of course, riding his bike!
An official River Falls “townie”. Matt lives with his wife, Stephanie, and is fiercely proud of his family (related to basically 70% of River Falls!). He brings years of mechanical problem solving to the shop and can be found doing one of his favorite sports...hunting, bowling, golfing and corn hole.
Proud business owner in her hometown. Stephanie fell back in love with cycling in 2011. She is an Ironman athlete who now loves bikepacking adventures and being in nature on two wheels. Her favorite activites are all kinds of biking, single track, road, gravel but most of all adventuring and biking with her grandsons, Wilder and Miller!
A UW-Madison student from Stillwater, MN. Max earned 5 consecutive state championship titles with his Mountain Bike Team. When not fixing bikes, you'll find him playing guitar or saxophone. Ask him about local trails or music!
